DESUCON 2013 MAMA IT'S OVERRR

Hello all our precious little (and big) readers!

We have just returned from Desucon yesterday evening and now we are healing our Con hangover in the Aschan cafe in the Siperia media center where for Tampere Kuplii is held.

Anyway, we had a busy weekend!

Friday:

We woke up in the morning and did the...normal stuff? Like packing things and ironing stuff and so on. Yeah.

Then things got interesting.

Our grandparents picked us up from our place and drove us to their place where Momo took the wheel!'
This was quite (very) terrifying, since Momo has had her license for only three  weeks...

No one died when we left, so we went to pick up Hansku from her place and played a little Tetris with all her stuff and our stuff (and there was a lot of stuff, no lie).

Anyway, we managed to fit it all in and drove to fetch one more passenger,Ilse.

Then our fully packed NEKOCAR~ was ready to roll

After quite...interesting journey, we finally made it to Lahti! (alive).

We drove around Lahti for about an hour, searching for the gas station and since the traffic in Lahti is quite twisted and u know we have never drove there before, it really took some time.

But we got gas and all so yeah. Everything okay.

After a moment, we made it to our hotel, Omenahotelli, where we shared a room with Ninni who was already there waiting!

After getting our costumes on, we headed to Sibeliustalo and even managed to park the car without killing anyone

We even saw the last minutes of the opening ceremony and got glow sticks and YEAH.

Anygays, we weren't actually cosplaying but we were ^KaWaiIII NEKO_chAn_GiRls^^ aka something figured out 1am on one night before con....the cat ears were made around 3 am, tutorial given if wanted.

In the evening we had our SpeedMeeting and it was a lot of fun and (again) extremely popular. Momo's job was to talk to the people that were lining up to join the SpeedMeeting and Poke was inside the room, dealing with the time and all. We met a lot of amazing people and are definitely looking forward to seeing them again in future cons.

The pics are a bit dark because Poke was smart and forgot the batteries of her additional flash home. (She did take the flash itself though, oh brain)

After the SpeedMeeting we went straight to the hotel and to bed because we were just super tired!

Saturday:

We woke up around seven-ish and got into our make up and wigs before heading to Sibeliustalo to get our costumes. (We left the car there over night because of the free parking lot) Then we drove the car to our hotel and filled it up with katanas and some other cosplay stuff of Hansku's.

After parking successfully (AGAIN) we went inside and just hung around for a while before going to our photoshoot (we'll post the photos when we get them) and yeah it was cool and so on

Then we went to help Hansku to help her with her Eurocosplay costume and the show and all, her costume was awesome and I'd show you a photo but guess who didn't take any with her camera? But you can stalk her blog and find out (it's up there u know, use your brain)

Then we hosted the speedmeeting again and so on and yeah

We were cosplaying Prince Philip and Aurora from the Sleeping Beauty as you probably gathered by now.

 

In the evening we hosted the SpeedMeeting again and it was even more crowded! we had to tell people to leave so others could get in :(

 

By the way, genuine and loving thank you to all of you who participated to SpeedMeeting! We love hosting it, so it's great that you love coming to it! lovelovelove

 

Sunday:

We woke up (too) early and got into our wigs and make up again and fetched the car like every other day. Once we had parked to Sibeliustalo we went to greenroom for breakfast and it was awesome! Karelian pastries and bread and coffee and cheese and ham and cucumber and oh we loved it. (They did play Gimmel there though, wtf?)

After dining we just hung around the con in our awesome Haku and Chihiro from Spirited away costumes before heading to the Cosplay skit - competition that was...err..well...it had good parts and the winner was really good. Also there was a really cool Fatal Frame skit. Wohoo.

The rest of the day went by just randomly hanging around and photoshooting, and in the end of the day, we headed back to Tampere:(

Yes. 24 days.

Because we are actually doing quite well with our costumes ( or I, Momo, am.) ! Let me give you a short update of how we're doing. (with actual pictures *gasp*). I didn't take pictures of everything because I was too lazy to dig them up so you will have to be pleased with only these. Ok, here we go, day by day, costume by costume.

Friday: Still no fucking idea what we're going to do lol. Well, 24 days....

Saturday: Prince Philip and Princess Aurora/ Sleeping beauty

So far Poke has started to sew the shirt/dress/whatever and I guess the best thing I can show you is this awesome upper part of the sleeve:

- Style the wig

- Make the cape

- Get the shoes

- Get the belt

So far I've done the hem of the dress and started the middle part. Today I WILL sew the sleeves and that odd thingy between the hem and the upper part lol. I've also started the crown. I know, it's so beautiful lol:

What do you mean paint it? No way I love those lemons. Close enough! And yes. It's made of a plastic tablet which btw is a great and cheap material! Also forms itself within heat. (4x 1€ in IKEA too expensive, huh?) I think I will also make the necklace out of this and then paint them and show you how it will look like!

Poke actually made something out of it! See the Moriarty crown?

It's mostly made out of that plastic! Cheap and nice and funny to work with. Also almost all kinds of paints stick into it really nicely. (Citadel, Acrylic paint, Spray paint etc.) Ok done advertising let me get back to Aurora.

Here you can see the hooks I've sown behind it because I prefer hooks over zippers. I just hate sewing zippers. Especially hidden ones.

I ironed some buckram to the upper part to make it more stiff and I will also make a lining inside it with something stronger than the actual fabric because Aurora has a body form of a satan.  Just take a look:




What is that supposed to be? An X? I don't really know lol. Anyway, here's how the dress is now looking. It's still not fully fitted so don't judge me! And yes, that sleeve totally belongs there. We were just too lazy to do Aurora and Philip so we combined them! Good, ay?

 Oh and I lied about not having done the necklase. Don't you see that beautiful thing at the neck? Tape measure is close enough. The hem isn't fully finished either but almost! I wanted to go with organza on the top since it is a princess dress and the hem must be princess-y!

Sunday: Haku and Chihiro (Spirited Away)

Ok let me start with Haku.

I'm done with Haku.

All Poke has is the wig and the fabric ( not even all of it!) So I won't dig deeper.

To-do-list for Poke:

- Do the whole fucking costume.

AAAND Chihiro is actually almost done!!!

Here's the yet unstyled wig that I actually did cut yesterday but didn't take a picture:(

The costume itself is cut, sown and only to be groomed and ironed! I also need to make the belt but that's nothing too big. I could finish it in one hour. Yes. One hour. TAKE THAT POKE.

No really I've never finished (or almost finished) anything so early! This has been done for  almost two weeks now actually! Yeah. I think I'm losing it.

As for Desucon we've had the hotel booked for months and the tickets are on Desucon for us since we are working there so nothing to worry about! Except how do we get to Lahti but that'll be cleared out tomorrow when I either get my driver's license or not. (Thumbs up for me guys!)

Ok now I'll need to head to do some actual business so Adiós!

DESUCON FROSTBITE AND SOME SPEEDMEETING

Hello all the lovely people! This is Poke updating our blog again!
Momo just left back to Valkeakoski so this will be all me! BWAHAHAHHAA

I'll start with the last Thursday, this is not entirely cosplay related, but I just want to show you some cool stuff! So on Thursday we had this thing called Penkkarit  and I dressed up as Harley Quinn! You'll see the photos of Harley Quinn later, what I wanted you to see was these supercool signs our class made, I was helping quite a lot so I'm very proud of these lol.

 So I have painted Bane, Superman, Harley Quinn and Loki to this one (and the text), the others were made by my lovely classmates!

And then there's this one which is absolutely fabulous! I didn't do too much work with this one but JUST LOOK AT IT!!! and these are some huge signs, since they cover the sides of a lorry!

Anyways, enough of the Penkkari's, let's talk about..

DESUCON FROSTBITE

I'll make this cool day by day thing as usually :D

Friday:

We started our journey to Desucon Frostbite on Friday morning, with me, Poke, Momo and Hansku (check her blog btw). I had slept like 2,5 hours on last night due to the Penkkarit After Party and Momo and Hansku were also a bit hungover so we kind of..didn't function :D Anyways, we went to Helsinki and just  rolled around (buying manly and womanly pants) for few hours, doing pretty much nothing. The reason why we went there at all, was that our dad was going there and offered to throw us to Lahti since he was on the move already.

As we arrived to Lahti, it took about five minutes to make our room all messy and well, like a cosplayer room. We basically did Momo's costume the whole evening and drank Megaforce since we needed energy!!!!11 (true badasses)

Later in the evening, our friend Amanda joined us (does she have a blog?)

Saturday:

On Saturday morning we woke up at seven, more or less tired. We were ready way before we were supposed to leave, but there's nothing wrong with being early right?
Anyways, I cosplayed Jim Moriarty from BBC Sherlock, with the crown jewels that were hell to make! I'm planning on making some tutorial/ post about the crown itself if I manage to take detailed photos first.

Look at the make up :( it still needs improvement!

Momo, Hansku and Amanda had their Pandora hearts group and I don't have any photos of them all, but here, have Momo!

Note! the wig has fallen slightly in this photo! but you'll have more of her as the photoshoot pictures arrive!

I'm letting Momo tell you more about this cosplay and so on when she has time.

We also had our Speedmeeting on Saturday and god did it go well?

We were both sure there wouldn't be too many people but we were horribly wrong! Before the whole program even officially started, there were many people waiting and oh my god! At first, we were sure they were just some random people who were just chilling in the room after the previous program but NOPE.

So it went quite well! so well, that we were even  asked if we'd like to arrange it at Desucon too! and yes DO WE DOOO

In the evening we went to the evening party, and what happens in the evening party, stays in the evening party...

Sunday:

On Sunday we all slept way too long and yeah, that's it.

I don't have too much to tell really..we just sort of went around and stuff.

OHHH yeah! the cosplay bootcamp! We were at a panel about Cosplay bootcamp and god yes! it sounds just brilliant! Check their Facebook page for more information

We were  also listening this Digimon vs Pokemon thing and it was cool, even though I hardly listened since I was so tired :( but it was loads of fun!

I cosplayed Harley Quinn (also the Penkkari costume) and here's some photos! We didn't take too many of them since it was FREEZING

Then there's Momo and her Black Canary costume, that we failed to shoot in Tracon so we did that now (though not too much since it was still freezing lol)

I'm playing sophisticated today and going to watch some Shakespeare's Hamlet so yeah, better get ready :D

GURLS STEP UP TO THE PARTAYY

Yo mah fellow cosplayas! How's the thug life rollin' in da hoodz?

It'z supa cool ya know? Just get in da mood shawt's cuz this is gon' b so damn gr8 piece of txt!!

Ok ok ok. Let me get into god news. I'm going to write the rest of this post with a normal(ish) English.

Why did I ask you to play that song? Well firstly, IT'S SO GOD DAMN GREAT. Secondly, the lyrics kind of match our current cosplay motivation and thirdly, our costumes are almost done. Yes you heard right. Almost done. Which is kind of good since Desucon Frostbite will be held in a week. Omg yes. In a week.

For me, Momo, the situation is looking quite good already!! My coat is ready and my bootcovers only lack laces and then boom! I'm done. Ok I need to attach the front piece to the jacket and the bow as well but prfft that's an easy job, isn't it?
As for the scythe, the situation isn't looking as god but I will get to paint it tomorrow so close enough?
Seriously though, I need to give a big applause to myself. During this weekend I've:

- painted all the fucking squares to the whole costume (there were around 30 damn squares.)
- sewn the cuffs to the sleeves
- attached the hem to the upper part
- the collars
- the scythe into the point where I just cover it and paint it.
- bootcovers nearly done
- wigstyling for both me and Poke.
- Ok I've fucking moved this costume from point 20% done to 95% done. THAT'S ALOT.
- (gotten a new phone and finished my school assignments ok lol nope)

Desucon Frostbite is on the worst weekend possible for me since I have a load of exams and assignments coming up just before it and also right after it so you will be finding a bookworm Momo with a cute Marketing book from our hotel room. Haha. Hahahahahaha. Nope. Like I really could study during the convention? Lol nope.
And yes. I'm only doing one cosplay for the whole convention though I may  use one of my old cosplays on Sunday. (Black Canary? Seriously I have no idea:D)

Now let me hand the power over to my bro Pok-E yo dawg.

SSUP  YALL? IT'S POKEY DOKEY POK-E THE BIG E YALL KNOW- oh enough? okay

SO my costumes for the weekend are doing quite fine too! In fact, to speak the truth, both costumes are fucking 90% or more done yissssss.

Okay, so Harley Quinn  is basically ready, all I need to do is some little finish up with the details and stuff like that, so getting in there may I say? But my deadline with Harley Quinn is..oh well in four days, since I'm wearing it to the Penkkari's (scroll down few posts to get the explanation..)
Momo made so cool-looking list so yeah this is me copying her, deal with it.

-Dress is done, all it needs is some basic finishing like you know, cutting the threads and you know, basic.
-The collar lacks few stitches, but I'll get there as soon as I find a needle, seriously, ALL our hand-sewing needles have gone missing...
-Shoes are styled and done
-I made the coolest ring!
-I bought 5 pairs of white stockings, just in case (they were 1.50euros/5 pairs so not a great loss?)
-I made cool hammer with you know, cool stuff and so on.
-The hammer is cooolll
-coool hammer I haz
-HAMMER TIEM
-um yeah. The wig needs fixing but Momo is on it.

AND then I have the lovely Jim Moriarty.

I'm pretty much done with him too, only the crown has lots to do but I'm on it...and I've taken my cosplay to whole new level by learning ALL Jim's lines from the show, how cool is that?
But because  lists are cool:
-The cape has still some stuff to do...like boring sewing stuff
-but it's almost there
-The crown lacks some BLING DA BLING BLING and some FUR DA FUR FUR YO DAWG I'M THE KING YALLLL
-and then there are the trousers...I have no idea.
- make up is being under rehearsals
-shirt and shoes I haz.

I think that's it about them, Momo got anything left?

COSPLAY UPDATE, WHAT'S GOING ON AND TO WHERE?

So Hello..this is Poke updating our blog since Momo nagged me about it. And I admit, Momo has done most of our recent updates.

But here I am and I come with news:

Desucon Frostbite is held 16-17th of .Feb.2013

it's 20th of Jan right now and guess what?

OUR COSTUMES ARE ALMOST DONE!

Now this is new because:

-We have actually started our cosplays over a month before the convention
-We have actually got things done
-We have actually decided what costumes to make over a month before convention. (edit: a lie.)

THIS IS PRETTY COOL ISN'T IT

I'll give you some proof, meaning WIP photos!

First Momo's Alice:

The whole jacket is in very good state, it hasn't been properly ironed in these pictures and so on, but here you go, She's doing real good.

Only problem she's having is that her wig hasn't come yet :( But there's still time right, RIGHT?

Then me and my Moriarty:

 I had some clear diamonds so I painted them blue with Humbrol enamel paint Shade/AO566/52
 if you've used Citadel paint, it's about the same, only more liquid and in my opinion it has wider range of materials it's suitable for, since it had no problems with painting glass! also, when I first thought I would only paint the other side to make the diamonds look better, I decided to paint the both sides, since the paint only gave it colour without changing the surface.
Also, as you can see, I had to embed the diamonds to the..er..silver parts? so they would be translucent.
It was pretty simple, just making a hole and ta-da it fits! I did use hot glue to attach them but yeah.

 For now I have only done silver templates, but as you may see, I'm going to bling them up with spangles, but  guess what? I've been searching the whole Tampere for them and nope. Okay I found a bag of 60 silver spangles for 2.99 euros but seriously? 60? and for that price? I did find some golden ones, orange ones, black ones and fucking rainbow ones in the bags of 200 pieces for 1.99 but REALLY? no silver? But as I am an innovative cosplayer, I figured out that the color is easily removable  with nail polish remover or some other alcohol. Yiss.
So I'm going to polish 200 spangles into silver ones instead of paying more.

This is the full crown right now,  it's been stitched up for this photo, for example, the fur is not going to look like that, or anything. Just to show you the progress.

Okay enough with the WIP's.

Some random reader: But Frostbite lasts two days! 

Poke:*silences with a piece of craft foam and threatens with a hot glue gun* I wasn't finished, you moron.

So.

Yes, our cosplays for first day are doing fine but Sunday..Sunday,Sunday,Sunday.

Momo has no clue and I'm changing my plans:

Instead of Kuzco (Which is still on my cosplay-list, I'm just putting him to the Desucon) I will make my own version of Harley Quinn, and why?

We have this thing called penkkarit here in Finland, and traditionally, ''Abi's'' (meaning candidate for the final exams) dress up according to their theme, I'm not going to spoil what's our theme but since the penkkari's are on the Valentines day (aka two days before convention) I decided to go with the Harley Quinn to the frostbite too.
